El significado de la palabra tecnologia evolucionó para reflejar estos cambios. En el siglo XIX, La tecnologia se referia simplemente al uso practico de artes para crear productos fisicos, todo desde ruedas de carreteras y ropa de algodon hasta telefonos y motores de vapour. En el siglo XX, el significado de la palabra fue expandido para incluir todo lo involucrado en satisfacer los materiales que el humano desea y necesita, de empresas y organizaciones que las manejan hasta conocimientos cientificos, conocimientos tecnicos y productos tecnologicos para ellos mismos.
